Research Committee not self-sufficient – facing unprecedented difficulties.

Strengthening basic and applied research. Improving management competence. Extroversion (Patras IQ-2015, 2016, 2017, 2017, 2018, 2019). Despite the significant changes in the management of the Research Committee, and in a context of a stiflingly non-autonomous, I believe that radical interventions are needed, but above all changes in the institutional framework by the State, in order to provide researchers with the best possible procedures for the management of their programmes.

Unified Higher Education

The majority of the Senate was against the integration of the Technical Education Institution (ΤΕΙ) into the University of Patras. 10 votes in favor /12 against /2 blank.

Implementation of Law 4610/2019 – unified higher education-35 Departments, 7 Faculties in the University of Patras, in 7 cities, and buildings, logistical equipment, financial and human resources integration from the former TEI. New study programmes in all Departments of former TEI. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the integration of the Polytechnic School of the former TEI into the University of Patras did not take place, but it was rather integrated into the University of Peloponnese.  The work continues with updating and strategic interventions, without retreating from the essence. Many interventions will be needed, as well as rearrangements, constantly updating the needs and the desired development of our University. In Law 4610/2019, the Faculty of Law was established at the University of Patras, with a positive decision by the majority of our Senate. A chronic request from the University of Patras, the Bar Association, the Region of Western Achaia and the society of Patras. The School of Law would operate, in the academic year 2021-2022, like other Departments, based on the Senate’s decision, in order to allow sufficient time for preparation.  The Minister of Education, upon assuming her duties, 7/2019, abolished the established Law School by law.

Pandemic Covid-19

Facing the pandemic at all levels and implementation of all directives

Organization of a SARS-Cov-2 control structure, in collaboration with the 6th YPE ( Mr. Karveli), and the Medical Department.

Implementation of distance Education successfully.

Dealing with all the issues of the Student Residence in terms of feeding, housing in accordance with the Ministry of Education guidelines.

Operation of the Laboratory of Molecular Diagnosis of Infectious Agents, Department of Medicine, University of Patras (Responsible Professor Mrs. Mouzaki).

Taking all the necessary sanitary measures.

We wish the new Rector’s Office a good start and every success in its difficult work, and in the many things that still need to be done.
