It is commonly accepted that the student years are a beautiful chapter in the life of a young person. This chapter inevitably records every minute of joy and every minute of sorrow that once seemed like an eternity for different reasons, and this is because their importance diminishes over the years. Now those problems that used to lead to a dead end have turned into the sweet reflections that are the hallmark of age.

Yet life is moments either good or bad, and the puzzle of student moments is unique to each group. Of course, the moments shared with friends are common. It is these commonalities that unite for a lifetime. The sowing of knowledge, the achievement of goals, the endless studying, the intense socializing, the taking of responsibilities, the moving away from the safety of the family home, the true friendship or the “fake” one, the inner search for solitude is like an explosive mixture of spices that leave a different aftertaste on the palate of anyone who tastes it, just like the food you cooked all by yourself to welcome the company on that warm summer evening before the exams, during which “Kostas” played familiar melodies on the guitar and “Maria” transported the others with her voice and grace.

All these and many other memories awoke from the slumber of everyday life for everyone who was directly involved in the reunion of the graduates or indirectly. On Saturday, July 9th, 2022, after four decades, the paths of Life crossed for about 100 alumni of different Departments of the University of Patras, at their own eternal meeting point – the theatre of the Student Center of Patras. But what is the connecting link of their own student memories? But of course, their stay at the Student Center of Patras during the period 1978 – 1986. Their own personal experiences of their student years, their experiences in the facilities of the dormitory as well as their stay in the University’s premises 24 hours a day, gave them unforgettable moments of youth.

In the dedication meeting of the interns of the Student Residence of Patras for the given period of time – in the context of the reunion, the Rector of the University of Patras, Prof. Christos I. Bouras attended, who was a student of the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics of the University of Patras during the period 1980-1985. Both in his capacity as the Rector and in his capacity as an alumnus of the Institution, Mr. Bouras welcomed the event in which he spoke about the power that a University hides in its alumni as well as his initiative to support the social platform of alumni, which was then presented in detail. One of the most “powerful” moments of the event was the presence of the employees at that time in the dormitory, as well as the address of all participants, honoring those who managed to visit the University of Patras with physical presence on the morning of July 9th and those who could not but made sure to send their greetings and wishes.

The emblematic space of the residence hall was accordingly designed to welcome one more meeting. There were a number of display boards with a number of photographs that they had taken from their trash, video and photo projections bringing to life their perhaps “forgotten” moments together from outings, carnival parties, amphitheaters, love affairs, as well as from the snowy surroundings of the University, etc. as well as favorite songs of their own student years accompanied the relaxed conversations between all those present.

Indeed, it was extremely touching to observe the fervent effort of some to make known to the rest of their family members a youthful habit, a hidden corner, a familiar face from the old days. Admittedly, it was the perfect occasion to start endless conversations between friends and roommates, the most attractive reason for whole families to get to know and socialise with each other, as well as the trigger to keep in touch with the most beautiful years… the student years!

Afterwards, a lunch was served in the restaurant, as it was back then. The memories of the hours spent in the queue and the groups of four or six (depending on the table seating arrangement) further triggered the emotional charge of the event, skyrocketing the plethora of images that flashed before their eyes like a film. The alumni meeting was concluded with a tour of the other buildings of the Student Residence, and as the time went by, the nostalgic mood ran red.

Eyes don’t change color, they only change the way they look“, the beloved lyrics of Michalis Ganas with the special composition of Dimitris Papadimitriou and the robust voice of Gerasimos Andreatos in the song of the same name echoed from the loudspeakers of the dormitory.

Until the next exchange of glances, the hundreds of commemorative photos and the wishes they entered in the e-book will accompany them. For now, according to the chant, apart from the meeting in dreams, the University of Patras alumni have the opportunity to meet on the social network’s website by registering at the following link: https://alumni.upatras.gr/register/

Dedicated to that student group that lost the bet of contact, with the wish to win it soon…
