The Department of Philology of the University of Patras is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1994 but accepted its first students in the academic year 1997-1998. So, this is the first “class” of students, while the first graduates graduated in 2001. Since then, 3231 students have graduated (recordings up to March 2022 graduation), 196 have obtained their master’s degree, 34 have completed their doctoral thesis, and 51 are in the process of completing it.
But our graduates/graduates are NOT just the numbers. And much more, they are NOT an accumulation of degrees, majors, research projects, papers, and honors either. Our alumni/graduates are the soul of the Department of Literature with their dynamics and the personal story that each of them embodies.
That is why the Department, with the generous support of the Rectorate of the University of Patras, celebrates its 25 “Great Years” of operation on June 24th at a wonderful dinner at the Peace Park with a large number of alumni attending (an opportunity for the first in-person reunion) and the entire teaching and administrative staff of the Department of Philology, as well as the authorities of the University of Patras. In this celebration, ten graduates of the Department of Philology will talk about their post-university career and how it has helped them to achieve their goals. The spectrum covered is impressive: from managerial positions in multinational companies, to setting up their own businesses or attaining high management positions in companies or professorships in universities in Greece and abroad.
We are proud of the Department of Philology and all our graduates.
