During the period 2006-10 I was responsible for the administration of the University of Patras as the elected Rector. The main achievement of the Rector’s Authority at the institutional level, in this turbulent period for the Universities, was the substantial upgrading of the operation of the Senate and the primary presence of the University of Patras in the Rectors’ Conference, based on the decisions of the collective bodies of the Institution. At the same time, the effective promotion of transparency at all levels of the Institution’s operation was a dominant objective of the Rector’s Authority. The close and productive cooperation with Department Chairs and Deans to address existing problems promoted the proper functioning of the academic units.

The systematic support of excellence through the Research Committee, with the main pillars being the quality and transparency of project management, the claiming of resources and the multifaceted support of researchers, has resulted in the upgrading of the research work and the strengthening of the Institution’s extroversion through the systematic promotion of its research work (for instance, to the Research and Technology Committee of the Hellenic Parliament) as well as the development of important collaborations with European associations, international organizations and prestigious academic institutions (e.g. CERN, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Harvard, Yale, etc.).

The overall upgrading of digital services was achieved with the development of the university’s wireless network, digital telephony and the universal digital organization of all units of the institution, through the large and ambitious project “The Digital Leap of the University of Patras”. At the same time, substantial interventions were made to reorganize and improve the operation of the Technical and Financial Services, while the General Regulatory Plan of the University Campus was completed.

Finally, the student services and the cultural activities of the University of Patras were substantially upgraded.
