Hellenic Alumni Engagement pilot project

The Office of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Andreas Katsaniotis, and the Foreign Ministry’s General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy, in an effort to build a network of Greek and foreign professionals who studied in Greece but currently reside and work abroad, are joining forces with the University of Patras in their quest to build the first Alumni Engagement Portal in Greece. The existing Alumni Portal of UPatras, which was created almost a year ago, already boasts over 10.000 registered members, who have started building new connections. This is only the beginning, since their numbers increase day-by-day.

Through this co-operation we seek to connect and communicate with former students now residing abroad. We hope to start a dialogue with the goal of building a social network that will best suit their needs and expectations. The new initiative, we now embark on, sets a new goal: connecting alumni not only with their Alma mater, the University, but with society, through the ecosystem this interconnection creates.

Our common mission is to sustainably connect our Diaspora graduates – both Greek and foreign- from all Greek universities with the local economies. We seek to create forums -both virtual and physical- with the goal to accelerate access to resources that foster partnerships, knowledge sharing, and advance investment opportunities, thus enhancing their interaction with Greece from their new communities, and facilitating their strategic involvement in the development of Greece.

This is the initial-pilot phase of our program which, in its completion, will result in bringing together Greek expats and friends of Greece. It will help them forge strong relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and leaders of organizations, corporations, and official development agencies to learn, engage, and co-create possibilities. Making our expat alumni body a most essential partner in our Diaspora Diplomacy.
